George William Thwaites (1874 - 1913)

Died June 2, 1913. 13a

Children (3)  2 daughters, Gladys and Victoria, and 1 son, Joe. 13a 

Both George and his wife became very ill while at Cape Brett and were sent to Kawakawa Hospital. Mrs. Thwaites died first, and George died the following morning (June 2, 1913). Their children (the eldest being 15 at the time) originally stayed with the Creamer family before moving elsewhere. Gladys Thwaites went on to become a decorated Army Nurse in World War 2, based at Trentham Memorial Army Camp in Wellington. 13a 

 

l'bc following transfers in the lighthouse service have been decided upon:—Mr Murray, assistant at Godley Head, to go to Stephens I-I&nd vioe Mr Jamieson, resigned; Mr Thwaites. assistant at Pencarrow, to go to Stephens Island, vice Mr Gwynnw, who ie to be pr_icip_. keeper at The Brothers, suooeeding Mr McGahey, who is to take charge at Farewell Spdt; Mr McNeil! principal keeper at Farewell Spit, to be principal keeper at Mokihinau; Mr Falla, assistant at Dog leland, to be assistant at Penoajrow.
