I have some information that may be of use to you.
My great-grandfather, Cunningham Hosier Reeves, was a lighthouse-keeper on a few lighthouses, among them Cape Saunders, Cape Foulwind, and Nelson Boulder Bank (not sure what order).
His father, Dr Henry Reeves, arrived in Lyttelton in 1874 on the ‘Kent’, and practised as a GP in Taieri and then Oxford. The doctor’s wife was a Scotswoman – her maiden name was Cunningham.
My maternal grandfather, Claude Hosier Reeves, was born in 1895 – at this time Cunningham Reeves was keeper at Nelson Boulder Bank lighthouse.
At some stage, Cunningham Reeves suffered total amnesia for a period of ten years, after falling down the lighthouse steps. He got most of his memory back, but not the missing ten years.
Hope this is of use,
Rgds, Mark Pascoe.
