MR. 0. MOELLER, ŠA very old colonist, Mr. Charles Moeller, sen., died at the Te Kopuru Hospital, near Dargaville, on Monday ;at the advanced age of 97, as the result of injuries sustained through a fall while working in his garden a; few days -earlier. Mr. Moeller was born in Holland and arrived in New Zealand prior to the commencement of t?he 'I Maori War. He was engaged on active service right through this war, being present at the taking of Gate Pah, and later with General Cameron in the Waikato and at Poverty Bay. He was 'among those chosen for service -in Taranaki, and was with the troops; when Von Tempski was killed. After the war he was appointed as assistant signalman with the late Captain R= Paltridge at the Manukan Heads signal station, under Cap-, tain Wing, then Harbourmaster; at Onehunga. He h remained ;in the lighthouse service for many years until his retirement. After the death of his wife about two years ago, Mr. Moeller went to live with his son at Pouto. He is survived by his son, Mr. C. Moeller, inn., and his daughter,': Mrs. Harrison, of j Eltham, another 'son, who was at;the landing at Gallipoh, having been reported as missing. Mr; Moeller always enjoyed excellent health, 1 attributing this to t simple living and hard work
